Brigantine's Longtime Mayor Won't Seek Re-Election

   

BRIGANTINE:  Mayor Philip J. Guenther (right) who has been in office for 26 years said Wednesday he will not be running again.

 

Serving as mayor of his hometown "has been one of the greatest honors of my life," he said in a news release making the announcement.  

 

Guenther is the superintendent of Atlantic County Special Services Vocational School Districts and will continue that position, he said.  

 

First elected to Brigantine City Council in 1990, he was appointed mayor two years later and first elected mayor in 1993.  

 

Guenther said he is proud of many improvements under his watch, including construction of the Atllantic City-Brigantine Connector; the preservation of the 180-acre Brigantine Beach Golf Links; a Land Use Ordinance limiting overdevelopment; construction of the North End Seawall; beach replenishment projects; and construction of the Brigantine Community Center     READ MORE
